Frequently Asked Questions
Does Kshan sync my activity across multiple devices?
No — cloud sync is per-device backup, not merged multi-device tracking. Activity tracked on your laptop won't appear combined with activity tracked on a second machine. See Data Storage & Backup.
Can I use Kshan without any cloud account?
Yes. Choose Offline only in Preferences → Data & Storage and nothing leaves your device. You can still back up locally-stored data to Dropbox/OneDrive/Google Drive/iCloud Drive without going fully cloud — see Offline with backups in Data Storage & Backup.
What happens to activity I mark Do Not Track?
It's never recorded, even locally — and if you add a rule that matches activity already tracked, that history is deleted, not just hidden. See Privacy & Do Not Track.
Which platforms are supported?
macOS is the primary target; Windows and Linux builds are also available.
Why can't I connect Google Calendar or Outlook yet?
Google Calendar is built but not fully rolled out — you may see an error at Google's consent screen if you try today. Outlook isn't in the Integrations tab yet at all. Apple Calendar (macOS) is the only calendar integration verified working end-to-end right now. See Calendar Providers.
I connected a task provider like Jira/Asana/Linear — why don't my changes sync back?
Import (reading tasks in) works for all task providers, but several — Asana, Jira, Linear, monday.com, Notion — don't have an in-app picker yet for choosing which workspace/project/board/ database to push changes to, so two-way sync isn't user-configurable for them yet even though the underlying sync engine exists. Todoist's two-way sync is built but off by default with no toggle yet. See Task Providers for the exact status of each.
Are my Dropbox/OneDrive/Google Drive backups encrypted?
No — backups are stored unencrypted at the destination you choose. Treat that folder's own access controls as your protection. Backups are also manual only (no scheduled backups yet), and restoring one requires restarting Kshan to take effect.
How do I turn off the daily email report?
There's no in-app toggle for this yet — you're opted in automatically. See Daily Email Report.
What's the difference between Free, Basic, and Pro?
Free gets Daily reports only. Basic unlocks Weekly/Monthly/Yearly reports. Pro adds AI Insights (EOD summary + recommendations), which also require Cloud backup to be enabled. See Subscription & Billing.
Start at Login is greyed out / shows an error — why?
It requires macOS 13 or later. On older macOS versions you'll see: "Start at Login requires macOS 13 or later." See General Preferences.
How many languages does Kshan support?
10: English, Spanish, German, French, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, Japanese, Korean, and Chinese (Simplified). See General Preferences.
My Mac says Kshan "is damaged and can't be opened" after an update
Kshan's macOS builds aren't currently signed with an Apple Developer certificate, so Gatekeeper
can block a freshly updated copy. Right-click the app and choose Open instead of
double-clicking, or run xattr -cr /Applications/Kshan.app in Terminal. See
Updates & Notifications.
