Setup Wizard

The first time you sign in, Kshan walks you through a short setup wizard before showing the dashboard. It runs once — after you finish it, you won't see it again.

:::info Media needed — GIF Capture: A full click-through of all 5 wizard steps, end to end, ending on the "Start Tracking My Day" button. This is the single most important piece of media in the whole site — it's most new users' first impression of the product. Suggested file: static/img/screenshots/onboarding-wizard-flow.gif :::

The 5 steps

  1. Language — pick your display language (defaults to your OS locale). The rest of the wizard immediately renders in that language.
  2. Welcome & Role Selection — choose your role (Developer, Designer, Product Manager, Writer, or Other). This pre-configures which apps and sites get auto-categorized for you.
  3. Work Schedule — set your daily start/end times and which days you work, using time-pickers and day toggles.
  4. Privacy, Permissions & Data Storage — shows your current macOS Accessibility permission status live, with Recheck and Open System Settings buttons, and lets you choose where your tracked data lives: Offline only (default), Offline with backups, or Cloud backup. See Data Storage & Backup for what each option means.
  5. Ready to Track — tap Start Tracking My Day to finish setup. Kshan applies your chosen categorization rules and starts tracking in the background immediately.

:::info Media needed — Screenshot Capture: Step 4 (Privacy, Permissions & Data Storage) specifically — the permission status indicator and the three data-storage options, ideally with one option selected so the UI's selected-state styling shows. note

Declining the Accessibility permission doesn't block you from continuing — tracking still starts, but Kshan can only record app names, not window titles/URLs, until you grant it. The actual macOS permission prompt appears once, the first time the dashboard loads — not during the wizard itself.

Changing your language later

A language selector is also available directly on the sign-in screen (top-right), before you even sign in.

Redoing the tour

There's currently no way to replay the full setup wizard from Settings. If you want a refresher on any individual screen instead, see Guided Tours.
